This is the first photo of John Darnielle I ever saw back when I was fourteen and discovered the Mountain Goats through the covers that Atom and his Package had did. I couldn’t find but maybe two songs from the Mountain Goats on Kazaa. I listened to those two songs incessantly, and when I opened them in my Musicmatch Jukebox, the little All Music Guide would drop down on the bottom. I read the sparse biography and saw this photo. For the next few years, before information and media became even easier to find through the internet, before John put out Tallahassee, The Mountain Goats continued to carry some weight of mystery. At least to me anyway. All I had was this picture to go on and I honestly thought he kinda looked like some redneck. It’s weird how little I knew then and how much I know now, especially with John’s propensity to over share on stage and in interviews. And I went from having two songs on my computer to pretty much having every song. There’s probably not a day in my life now where I don’t listen to this man.
27. Las Vegas. I write literary fiction and humorous essays. I also sing and play guitar and synths.
I like a lot of things including but not limited to: the Mountain Goats, mst3k, horror movies, old Hollywood, redheads, VHS culture, bdsm, black coffee, vodka and black metal.
My ideal woman would be a combination of Ginger Lynn, Elvira and Dita Von Teese.
